Bio
Aiwen Chen was born and raised in Guangzhou China. In 1996, Chen immigrated with her family to the United States. She worked part-time as a bookkeeper in New Hampshire for over ten years. After her daughter turned eleven, Aiwen was able to go back to school to study art at Lake Region Community College, where she earned her associate of arts degree. She received the President’s Award for Excellence and was included into Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society in 2008. She has also had numerous pieces of her work published in the Lake Region Community College yearbook – Prescott Hill Author Society.
Chen was awarded a partial scholarship from the Imagine America Foundation in 2011 and earned her BFA from the Academy of Art University in drawing and painting in 2017. Her artwork has been selected for the AAU spring shows for consecutive three years, as well as receiving an award for the 3rd place in the category of Landscape/Urbanscape in 2016.
Aiwen Chen love to do plein air painting. She also likes to paint portraits and still-life paintings, but landscape is her favorite subject to paint. She is inspired by the beauty of nature and attracted to places where water flows. Her art combines techniques that she learned from her mentor Director Craig Nelson, Zhao Ming Wu, Calvin Liang,and Adam Forfang, and she often likes to use a palette knife and varied brushstrokes to create textures to form depth to mimic the original objects and places. She wants her art to reflect everyday human life and celebrate the beauty of nature.
She lives in the golden state California. Since 2015, she taught children arts & crafts, Mandarin in private schools in Milpitas, Campbell, and Redwood City CA. In the meantime, she worked both with AAU teachers and students painting a mural for a San Francisco Fire House. In 2019, she invited by the Golden Hill Art Association to do the acrylic painting demonstration. Her artworks has been collected by many art collectors nationally. In 2022, her work “Happy Waterfalls” was selected for the California Art Club Biennale: Celebrating California. Currently, she is members of California Art Club, Oil Painters of America, and working as a professional artist.
